Known locally as “Tupi,” handmade prayer cap from various Naogaon upazilas have left their impact on the Middle Eastern world, particularly Oman. According to business owners, they aim for an incredible USD 100.00 million in export revenue per season. Throughout the year, there has been a sharp increase in demand for the Omani Islamic prayer cap (Kumma, Kufi, or Taqiyah), which can be machine-embroidered or handmade. In Mohadevpur upazila of Naogaon, the trade started around ten years ago when a small number of people started making the Omani Islamic prayer cap (Kumma, Kufi, or Taqiyah) by hand. The company grew quickly as local women became proficient in creating both handcrafted and machine-embroidered versions. In order to enable the Omani Islamic prayer cap (Kumma, Kufi, or Taqiyah) reach international markets, some 50,000 women artisans are currently employed in its production. Chain, button, grain, and fish stitch are the four different stitch patterns seen on these caps. A single Omani Islamic prayer cap (Kumma, Kufi, or Taqiyah) is frequently made by several artisans and takes anything from three days to a month, depending on the design. The most time-consuming part of the process is the grain stitch. While handmade caps are preferred for their fine craftsmanship, machine-embroidered caps are manufactured more quickly for large quantities. In addition to being marketed to Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain, this famous cap has a strong connection to Omani culture.
